Cashmere wool, simply known as Cashmere, is a special type of fiber obtained from Cashmere goats. It is a strong fiber, light and soft in texture and provides excellent insulation, more than three times that of sheep wool. It is a natural fiber, much finer and softer than even baby’s hair.
Pashmina derives from the Persian word Pashm (wool). Cashmere is called Pashmina for its use in high quality, hand made shawls of Kashmir.
Cashmere is popular for the warmth it provides for the light and thin fiber that it is. Cashmere coats and sweaters are incredibly light, soft, and still warm. Rugs, carpets, bedding, blankets etc. are some more applications for Cashmere which cannot be used in garments.
Cashmere is a fiber obtained from certain breeds of goats. Due to the cold of the mountains, the hair they produce has the finest, softest and most solid texture in the world. Although the cashmere from the Himalayan region is the benchmark wool, cashmere can be produced in different regions of the world, particularly in Inner Mongolia, and with goats of various breeds. Only the extreme temperature of high mountains allows a real softness of the hair, which is why there are several quality cashmere.
The word cashmere is an old spelling of the Kashmir region in northern India. woolen shawls appear in texts surviving from between the 3rd century BC and the 11th century AD. However, the founder of the cashmere wool industry is traditionally thought to have been the 15th-century ruler of Kashmir, Zain-ul-Abidin.
You can dry clean a cashmere sweater, but it is much better for the sweater to hand wash it. The harsh chemicals in dry cleaning fluid will change the texture of the cashmere fibers. They will make it stiffer, more brittle, and less soft.
A good way to store a fine jacket is to hang it on a suitably shaped hanger (not a thin wire one but one that had some volume), protect it with a thin cloth bag, keep it dark and cool, well aired and not packed too tightly with other clothes in the closet.
